Four Months on the Road

July 1, 2020 by Ken MacGillivray

A number of you have asked us, “How’s it going?” and “What are you doing now?” Thanks for asking and thanks for praying! Here’s an update.

Interim Pastorate Ending

Most of you know that I currently serve as the interim pastor of First Baptist Church in Bad Axe, Michigan. Read THIS POST for more on that! FBC is close to calling its next permanent pastor, which means our time there is winding down. We have mixed emotions! We have grown to love this wonderful congregation, yet we are excited about the church’s and our next steps in ministry.

Full-Time Partner Development

We will hand the ministry baton to FBC’s new pastor some time between mid-August and mid-September. After saying our good-byes to friends in Bad Axe, we will devote the NEXT FOUR MONTHS (SEPT-DEC) to inviting churches to support PPI. We are working hard right now to prepare for this “big swing” at developing a support base for the ministry of Partnership of Pastors International.

How Will That Happen?

We created a “church information packet” and are assembling a list of church contacts. Beginning in early August, we will mail PPI info packets to potential supporting churches and invite them to meet with us. We are focusing mainly on church contacts in Michigan and the Midwest, Mid-South (Tenn, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina) and the East Coast. These are areas that we have interested friends and contacts. Then we will hit the road to meet with as many mission teams, pastors, and churches as possible!

How Can You Help?

One of our faithful PPI friends sent a simple text to me this morning: Anything we can do to help? YES – and thank you!

  • ASK GOD WITH US! I shared four Scriptures from John 14-16 with our Board of Directors at our meeting on Saturday. The Lord Jesus urges us to ASK in His name so that the Father may be glorified (John 14:12-14), so that we bear much fruit (John 15:7-8, 16), and so that our joy may be full (John 16:23-24).  Our Board is asking God for open doors and kindred hearts in training and resourcing church leaders in developing countries. Will you ask God with us?
  • HELP US ON JULY 23! We will host our next PPI Volunteer Workday on Thursday, July 23 from 6:00-9:00pm. We will assemble 300 church info packets. We will also put together 500+ packages of over-the-counter medicines to ship to Haitian believers in early August. Come and help us that day!
  • OPEN A DOOR, GIVE US A TIP! Do you know a church that may be interested in learning more about PPI? Let us know! Do you know someone selling a gently used camper at a good price? Send us the info! We will need a “home on wheels” as we meet with churches this fall. Contact us HERE.
  • COMMIT TO MONTHLY PARTNERSHIP WITH US! Has the Lord touched your heart about the needs of believers in Haiti and other developing countries? Do you believe in what we’re doing to encourage, train and resource church leaders there? Take the next step to join our growing family of monthly partners! Get more info about that HERE.

Bibles and More Food

June 3, 2020 by Ken MacGillivray

“In our country the government doesn’t help us,” a Haitian pastor told me earlier this week. “People are starving.” Partnership of Pastors is providing 150-160 more packages of food this week to families in Ouanaminthe. Pastors there so appreciated the 110 food packages we provided in mid-May. Hear Pastor Philogene’s thank-you HERE.

Each package will feed a family of four for about two weeks. The packages contain rice, corn meal, black beans, flour, sugar, canned milk, spaghetti noodles, tomato sauce, and cooking oil. These are nutritious “staples” that Haitians use in many of their meals – when they can get them. “And chicken is much too expensive right now,” a pastor told me laughing.

Also this week, PPI provided 234 Creole Bibles to churches in Ouanaminthe. The Bibles were trucked from Port-au-Prince and reached Pastor Esaii’s house on Monday. They will be distributed at no cost through the Pastors League and Pastors Association, our ministry partners. DONATE HERE to help us provide more food and Bibles in Haiti.

Please continue to pray for our Father to provide for our dear brothers and sisters in Haiti. Pray that God protects them from coronavirus and gives them open doors to share the hope of Jesus with others in their neighborhoods. More people are coming to the churches in this crisis. Pray that the Lord will stop the spread of COVID-19 so that Haitians can provide for themselves AND so we can get back there soon to continue training church leaders! CLICK HERE to get more info on partnering monthly with us to train and resource church leaders in Haiti and other developing countries.

A Haitian pastor wrote me this week:

“Thank you so much for saving people’s lives by training them in the Word of the Lord, providing foods for them and Bibles. May God richly bless you . . .”

Thank you to all of you for remembering your brothers and sisters in Christ in Haiti!

They asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do. Galatians 2:10

Getting Food to Haitian Families

May 15, 2020 by Ken MacGillivray

The first 110 packages of food have been given to Christian families in Ouanaminthe, Haiti. We’re planning to provide more food by the end of May. Thank you for helping us make it happen! Watch a video update HERE.

Our lead pastors, Esaii, Jasmin and Philogene, worked hard to purchase and organize the bulk food. Then they distributed the food packages to pastors and churches in their Pastors League and Pastors Association. <<DONATE HERE>>

Pastor Esaii told me that his house church was coming over on Tuesday morning to pray together. This is their regular time of prayer. After their prayer time, each family would receive a package of food. They thanked the Lord for caring for them and answering their prayers!

Pastor Jasmin wrote:

Yesterday [Tuesday], all the pastors association are happy to receive the food. They thank you a lot with all the people who contribute. They asked God to always bless you and protect you against the pandemic. They say that the best friends are those who help you when you are in need. You think of us in Haiti. We consider that a gift from God through you. We all thank you, and may God bless you all!

PPI is committed to providing all the nutritious, nonperishable food we can through the COVID-19 crisis in Haiti. Most experts believe the worst is yet to come for our friends there. READ a recent Washington Post article on the coronavirus threat in Haiti.

Update – Fill Up Buckets

April 30, 2020 by Ken MacGillivray

Thank you, friends, for your compassionate hearts toward our brothers and sisters in Haiti. I wanted to follow up yesterday’s post with an update on what we’re doing – and what you’re giving toward – to get food to Haitian Christians.

We are working with our lead pastors in Ouanaminthe to purchase nutritious nonperishable foods and to fill new 5 gallon buckets with specific quantities of food. Each 5 gallon bucket of food will feed a Haitian family of four for up to two weeks. And families want buckets for better sanitation. Every part of this “bucket blessing” will be appreciated and used by Haitian families. DONATE HERE to help us feed more Haitian families!

Who Knew?

Visiting with the Davises (center) after our pastors training in February

Karen and Don Davis are the heroes of the hour! I met these faithful servants of Christ last year in preparation for our pastors conference in Cap Haitian. As long-time missionaries in Cap, they gave us invaluable advice and introductions. After the February conference, we visited with Karen and Don, got to know them more, and heard more about their long investment for Christ in Haiti. Providing food to hurting families is one way God has used them to share the love of Jesus with Haitians. And they have a lot of experience on how to do it well – experience they graciously shared with us these past several days.

Fill Up Buckets

Following Karen and Don’s guidelines, we’re filling up new 5 gallon buckets with:

  • Rice – 1 gal bag (Ziploc)
  • Corn meal – 2 qt bags
  • Black beans – 1 qt bag
  • Sugar – 1/2 qt bag
  • Flour – 1/2 qt bag
  • Tomato paste – 1 large can
  • Oil – two 20oz bottles
  • Spaghetti – three 16oz packages
  • Canned milk – 2 small cans
  • Toiletries – soap, toothpaste as available
  • Encouraging note/Scripture

Each bucket costs us around $15 USD. Help us get more food to Haitian Christians

It’s Happening!

Pastors Esaii, Philogene, and Jasmin are talking with food vendors in Haiti as I write to arrange for the purchase of bulk foods. I’ll set up the first wire transfer of funds tomorrow morning in Saginaw. Our goal is to get the buckets of food to Haitian families beginning next week. And we are preparing to provide more funds for food in 2-3 weeks.

Karen and Don Davis wrote in their latest blog:

Most people here do not have any way to buy food for a week, much less for 2 weeks or more.  They really DO live day to day.  Is there a solution in a third world country?  I don’t know.  But prayers are going up and we know the Lord answers.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for being part of the Lord’s answer to prayer for our Kingdom partners and dear friends in Ouanaminthe, Haiti!

Let’s Get Food to Them!

April 29, 2020 by Ken MacGillivray

Haitian Christians need food right now, and we’re doing all we can to get it to them. You can help us provide nutritious nonperishable foods such as rice, black beans, corn meal, etc. by donating HERE.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18

What’s Happening?

In response to COVID-19, the Haitian government closed schools and businesses then ordered the Haitian people to stay at home. All that sounds good – and it’s working in the United States. The problem in Haiti is, neither the government nor employers provide any kind of financial safety net for Haitian workers. Haiti has no unemployment or public assistance. Making matters worse, the average Haitian survives from day to day in the informal economy. Most Haitians have no savings, no emergency fund, no freezers, no refrigerators.

Pastor Esaii told me, “Life is so hard in Haiti now. The people said to the president they would rather die of COVID-19 than die of starvation by staying home!” HELP HERE

What Are We Doing?

PPI maintains a bank account in Haiti that provides “startup” funds for our next pastors conferences. Pastor Esaii oversees this account for us. We typically carry a balance of $500-$1000 USD. Three weeks ago, I directed Esaii to use this money to help pastors and their families purchase food for themselves and their churches. They stretched the funds as far as they could. Now they’re out of food.

Over the last few days, I have talked with mission leaders in Haiti and in the United States about the best way to help our Haitian brothers and sisters right now. Our plan is to get as much nutritious, nonperishable bulk food as possible to Ouanaminthe within the next 10 days. We are working with our lead pastors there to distribute the food carefully so that it helps as many as possible for as long as possible.

How Can You Help?

Simply by donating money to Partnership of Pastors. As I write, we are tracking down the availability and prices of bulk foods. In the next few days, we will buy these foods in Haiti or here in the U.S. (or both) and get it as quickly as we can to our brothers and sisters in Ouanaminthe.

Will you help us do that? DONATE HERE
